Polycarbosilane
Polycarbosilane background introduction
Polycarbosilane is a type of polymer compound whose main chain is composed of alternating silicon and carbon atoms. The silicon and carbon atoms are connected with hydrogen or organic groups, and the molecular chain is linear or branched. Polycarbosilane is the most important compound among the newly emerging precursor polymers (Preceramic polymers) in high-tech new materials. It is mainly used to prepare silicon carbide series of high-tech ceramic materials, of which silicon carbide fiber is the most representative.

Polycarbosilane application prospects
Although polycarbosilane was synthesized very early, it was only in the 1970s that Professor Yajima of Tohoku University in Japan discovered a new synthesis method and prepared silicon carbide fibers that could be used at extremely high temperatures for a long time. Only later did it attract people's attention. In addition to preparing fibers, polycarbosilane has been gradually used in new fields such as the preparation of silicon carbide ceramic matrix composites, and has formed a large industry. Currently only Japan, China and the United States can produce.
In 1975, Professor Yajima Seiji from Tohoku University in Japan and his team successfully developed SiC fiber. This fiber is a ceramic fiber with C and Si as the main components. It has good high temperature resistance, high strength, and high modulus. And high chemical stability, mainly used to reinforce metals and ceramics to make high-temperature resistant metal or ceramic-based composite materials. Due to the difficulty of the production process, only Japan Carbon and Ube Industries have successfully commercialized.

At present, the international advanced SiC fiber has developed to the third generation, which can withstand high temperatures exceeding 1500°C. The ceramic matrix composite material (CMC) made from it has been successfully used in civil aircraft engines. SiC fiber is known as a new material that influences the development of the aviation industry.
The price of the most popular carbon fiber is 180~600 hello yuan/KG, and the price of SiC fiber is 100 times that!
Yajima's route to prepare polycarbosilane is to use dichlorodimethylsilane as the initial raw material, first make polydimethylsilane through sodium condensation, and then convert it into polycarbosilane under high temperature and pressure. The product made in this way has a molecular weight of 1000-2000 and a melting point of about 200 degrees. It is easily soluble in organic solvents such as toluene and has good spinnability.

Distribution of polycarbosilane related industries
In recent years, a major factor in the growth of interest in polycarbosilane research is their potential as silicon carbide precursors, mainly as a source of continuous ceramic fibers. As a result, many new polycarbosilanes have been synthesized directly or indirectly. However, in recent years polycarbosilane has also become the focus of research, but this part of the research has nothing to do with the development of ceramic precursors. This is because people have gradually realized that polycarbosilane can be used as a new type of polymer with potential applications in a wide range of applications.
In particular, chemists began to pay attention to carbosilane chemistry in order to answer basic questions about the relationship between the structure and properties of compounds containing both carbon and silicon in the main chain structure and polymers.
Among them, the basic question about carbosilane materials is: What is the effect of replacing carbon with silicon in the main chain of organic polymers (such as polyolefins) on the chemical and physical properties of the resulting polymer? Can be prepared similar to the well-known polyolefin ( Is it a stereoselective carbosilane polymer like isotactic polypropylene? Although these and many other problems with polycarbosilane have not been completely resolved, important progress has been made in recent years. Moreover, many new and unusual polycarbosilanes have appeared in the suppressed polycarbosilane materials.

Prospect analysis of polycarbosilane downstream products
In the next 20 years, the scale of the aviation market will double. At the same time, environmental protection energy requires continuous lightening of aircraft. The demand for aeroengines using SiC fiber composite materials will continue to increase. Benefiting from this, the market demand for polycarbosilane will continue to grow;
